I recently had the pleasure of revisiting Zoshigay Kishimojin Temple in Tokyo, a location I had previously sketched during a past trip. While my initial visit was peaceful and serene, this time the temple grounds were bustling with activity. An arts and crafts fair was taking place, showcasing a vibrant array of unique and beautiful creations from near and far.
Though I had initially envisioned a quiet and solitary sketching session, the lively atmosphere proved to be an unexpected and welcome change. The energy of the fair added a dynamic element to the scene, providing a unique backdrop for my artwork.
Within the temple grounds, I also encountered the striking red torii gates belonging to the nearby Takeyori Inari Shrine. This juxtaposition of architectural styles further enhanced the visual appeal of the location.
Zoshigay Kishimojin Temple, established in 1578, has long been a place of reverence for both samurai and common folk. It was a privilege to once again find myself sketching in such a historically significant and culturally rich environment.
